Green gram pulav


Green gram pulav (pacha payiru pulav)

Green gram is a high source of protein and minerals. This pulav is very delicious and healthy. Usually children tend to skip green grams but this pulav is so delicious that they will be willing to eat it.
Ingredients:
  • ·         Basmati rice – 1 ½ cup
  • ·         Green gram – 1/2 cup
  • ·         Carrot- 1 nos
  • ·         Beans- ¼ cup
  • ·         Onion – 1(medium sized)
  • ·         Sombu- ½ tsp
  • ·         Cinamon- ¼ inch
  • ·         Clove-2 nos
  • ·         Chilly powder – 1spn
  • ·         Coriander powder- 1 spn
  • ·         Garam masala- 1 spn
  • ·         Coconut – 1 tbsp
  • ·         Salt- as per taste
  • ·         Oil and ghee
  • ·         Water – 2 ½ cup
  • ·         Lime juice-  1 spn

Instructions:
1.       Soak green gram over night for about 10 hours. Next day wash and keep green grams.
2.       Wash basmati rice till water is clear and soak rice for about 10 mins.
3.       Chop onions, carrot and beans into small cubes.

4.       Heat oil and ghee in tawa first fry onions.
5.       Once onions turn translucent add basmati rice till the water is evaporated. Now keep this aside.
6.       In a small cooker add oil and ghee. Now add sombu, cloves and cinnamon and fry them.
7.       Then add carrots and beans one by one. Fry till they are half cooked.




8.       Then add chilly powder, coriander powder, garam masala, salt and coconut.Fry them for a min till raw aroma goes.

9.       Now add green gram and fry for a minute.
10.   Now add 2 ½ cups water and bring it to boil.
11.   Now add fried onion and basmati rice, close cooker lid. Once the steam comes simmer the stove. Put whistle and cook for 10 mins in low flame.
12.   Before serving mix a spoon of lemon juice. Serve with onion raita.


Tips:
·         You can deep fry bread cubes and mix it with rice.
·         You can make pulav with normal rice. If using normal rice use water in ratio of 1:4. i.e. for 1 cup of rice add 4 cups of water.
